Welcome back to the world of chaos, laughter and unbeatable “partying” – Madea is back, and this time… in Greece! In the brand new musical MAMMA MADEA – Here She Goes Again, Tyler Perry once again brings back the character of the talkative, cunning old lady Madea – but this time, in a completely different setting: golden sunshine, blue sea and drama abounding on a gorgeous Mediterranean island.
The story begins when the Paine family unexpectedly organizes a secret wedding on the island of Santorini, inviting Madea for the simple reason: “she is the only one crazy enough to control this crowd.” But as soon as Madea arrives, the storm begins to rise. In addition to family quarrels and long-standing secrets being dug up, Madea also faces… ex-lovers (!), a group of “grannies” from England, and especially an epic dance-off set to 70s disco music that shakes the whole island.
Inspired by the fun and romantic spirit of Mamma Mia, along with Tyler Perry’s “special” comedy style, the film is a true summer party: bustling, silly, but impossible to look away. The punchy dialogue, a series of “unbearable” situations and a sky full of Madea’s energy will make you laugh out loud for 90 minutes.
Although the content is not new or too logical – even quite absurd in many parts – but that is also what the audience loves about the Madea brand: an older woman who is not afraid of anyone, both rough and real, both a “grandmother” and an undefeated warrior in every family drama.
Plus points:
Tyler Perry still keeps the “fire” when transforming into Madea – still graceful, sharp-tongued and extremely expressive.
The singing and dancing performances are “cheesy” but in tune and addictive.
The beautiful Greek scenery is very suitable for the summer vibe.
MAMMA MADEA – Here She Goes Again is like a summer cocktail: sweet, strong, a bit “excessive”, but extremely entertaining. The movie promises nothing but laughter and organized chaos – and sometimes, that is what we need most this summer.
