Adam Sandler returns as Sonny Koufax, now a clumsy but loving suburban dad who has to raise his teenage daughter Chloe while managing a small sports memorabilia store. Life seems peaceful until Julian (Cole Sprouse), a boy who was raised by Sonny, suddenly appears after dropping out of college. The reunion leads to many conflicts and clashes between the two generations, but when the old neighborhood is threatened by greedy investors, they are forced to stand together to protect what is most important: family and memories.
The film combines Sandler’s trademark humor with emotional moments. Comedy scenes such as mock trials and “half-laughing, half-crying” training scenes are interspersed with messages about fatherhood, forgiveness and the chance to start over. Nostalgia is also rekindled by the return of Rob Schneider and Steve Buscemi in familiar cameos, while Cole Sprouse brings a fresh energy to the film.
A lingering moment at the end of the film: Sonny silently watches Chloe and Julian play basketball together, realizing that through all the hardships, he has still done the right thing – built a family.
⭐ Hypothetical rating: 7.9/10 – A funny and heartwarming sequel that affirms that there are stories worth telling and families worth preserving.
